My first backpacking trip was to Longs Peak when I was 14. Long before I started climbing I was drawn to this place. We setup camp at Jim's grove and that night in a tent with no floor and cloth sleeping bags I thought we might be blown off the mountain. The next dawn broke calm, cold but thankfully calm. After breakfast we hiked up to Chasm view. Clouds filled in everything below about 11,000 feet with only the highest peaks showing above. Longs Peak east face, with Chasm lake below is the most stunning place I've ever been.
